FIJI EXCLUSIVE
Suitable for day-time or evening, this specially- designed event provides a unique opportunity to experience the lifestyle and living culture of the Fijian people at the coastal village of Veiseisei, the acknowledged landing point of the islands’ first Fijian settlers some 3,000 years ago.

Guests may travel by Luxury air-conditioned coach or by private boat. Sarongs are delivered to the hotel rooms prior to departure to ensure that visitors are comfortably and suitably dressed for a visit to a Fijian village. On arrival guests received the traditional “sevu sevu” or welcome ceremony with the presentation of the national drink of yaqona”, made from the pounded bark of the paper mulberry tree and served for centuries in the South Pacific.

The ceremony takes place on the “rara” or village green in the centre of the village, which is flanked by the main large “bure” or chief’s stately residence and the village church and guests are asked to observe local etiquette with modest clothing and bare heads.

Guests are escorted to a shaded area and served refreshments and have the opportunity to see villagers hand making artifacts, including mat weaving, carving, pottery and the hand stenciling of “masi”, the finely-pounded bark cloth decorated with earth dyes. Within the hour, a lavish Fijian feast or “magiti” is served to include a selection of meats, poultry, fish and root crops, wrapped in banana leaves and cooked in an underground oven.

The history and legends of the Fijian people are handed down from generation to generation through song and dance performances in the form of a “meke” and the group is entertained by lively spear dances by the men recounting famous battles, regal songs and dances by the women as well as the melodies about love, hope and every day events. The event ends with a farewell chant from the village choir.
